David Huang, MD, PhD

Dr. David Huang (Click here for Curriculum Vitae) joined the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Casey Eye Institute in 2010 as a Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Huang earned the MD degree from Harvard University and a PhD in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Click here for thesis). He received ophthalmology residency training at USC and fellowship training in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. Before joining the OHSU faculty, Dr. Huang was on the staff of the Cole Eye Institute of the Cleveland Clinic and later on the faculty of Doheny Eye Institute of University of Southern California.

Dr. Huang has been named one of best doctors in America by his peers (www.bestdoctors.com) and among the top LASIK surgeons by www.trustedlasiksurgeons.com based on research experience and premier patient care.

Dr. Huang is known for his innovations in applying laser and optical technology to eye diseases. He is a co-inventor of optical coherence tomography (OCT), an imaging technology that has been applied to the measurement of eye structures with unprecedented precision. He continues his research in applying OCT to corneal and cataract surgery, glaucoma and retinal diseases.

Ou Tan, PhD

Dr. Ou Tan (Click here for Curriculum Vitae) is a Research Assistant Professor in Casey Eye Institute. He joined the faculty at Casey Eye Institute in 2010. Dr. Tan earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2000. He completed his post-doctoral research at National Institute of Radiology Science, Chiba, Japan, in 2002. He acted as a research associate in Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 2002 to 2004. He was an assistant professor of research ophthalmology in Doheny Eye Institute from 2004 to 2010. His research interests includes medical image analysis and computer aided diagnosis in glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration with optical coherence tomography.

Yimin Wang, PhD

Dr. Yimin Wang (Click here for Curriculum Vitae) is a Research Assistant Professor in Casey Eye Institute. He earned his Ph.D. degree in optics from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai, China. He performed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, Irvine and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Duke University.

Maolong Tang, PhD

Dr. Maolong Tang (Click here for Curriculum Vitae) earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Ohio State University in 2004 and completed his postdoctoral training in Doheny Eye Institute. He is currently Research Assistant Professor in Casey Eye Institute. His research interests include visual optics, corneal topography, optical coherence tomography and intraocular lens power calculation.

Yan Li, PhD

Dr. Yan Li (Click here for Curriculum Vitae) earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. She is currently a Research Assistant Professor in Casey Eye Institute. She received her master's degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Zhejiang University, China, in 2000. Her research interests include medical image processing, optical coherence tomography for imaging the corneal and anterior segment of the eye, planning refractive surgeries, automated anterior chamber cell counting in uveitis grading, mechanism of angle-closure glaucoma, and guiding the treatment of anterior eye diseases with optical coherence tomography.

Xinbo Zhang, PhD

Dr. Xinbo Zhang (Click here for Curriculum Vitae) is a senior statistician for the glaucoma imaging study. He received his PhD in biostatistics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Yali Jia, PhD

Yali Jia earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Oregon Health & Science University. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow in the COOL lab. Her research interests include optical coherence tomography for visualizing and quantifying blood vessels for eye diseases diagnosis.

Jason Tokayer, MS

Jason Tokayer is a Ph.D. candidate in Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is currently a visiting student at Casey Eye Institute. His research interests include novel methods for segmentation of OCT retinal images using natural sparsity. Also, he is interested in visualization and quantification of flow in small retinal vessels.

Janice Van Norman, COT

Janice is our study coordinator who's main focus is on our Advanced Imaging for Glaucoma study at OHSU. However, she is also responsible for subject recruitment and management across all of our clinical studies. She is a certified ophthalmic technician and has worked previously in general and pediatric ophthalmology.
